Negative taken for November 8, 1964, Arkansas Gazette article "A Pilgrimage to a Tragic Memorial," 5E:2. The Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Philippines, honors servicemen who died in World War II in the Southwest and Central Pacific regions. Over 17,000 marble crosses mark the resting places of the dead (1521.05, 1521.11, 1521.12), including Private First Class Marshall Jackson of Arkansas (1521.07). Stone tablets standing in lines are inscribed with an additional 36,279 names of American servicemen missing in action, lost, or buried at sea (1521.02, 1521.04, 1521.15).
